Paul and I talk to Jonah Keri, author of the definitive history of the Tampa Bay (Devil) Rays — The Extra 2%: How Wall Street Strategies Took a Major League Baseball Team from Worst to First — as we look at the 2011 Tampa Bay Rays with a nod to the story behind how they became a fixture at the forefront of Red Sox fans’ minds each summer.
Pardon my recording snafu at the outset of the interview that lost my glowing introduction to Jonah and my first question asking Jonah to compare and contrast John Henry and Rays owner Stuart Sternberg as both businessmen and baseball owners. Despite my troubles at the sound board, the half hour to follow was a joy to be a part of.
To close today’s show, we debut a new anthem for Red Sox Nation, “I am Red Sox Nation” by Brad Clemens, Jeff Clemens, and Jabe Beyer.
All that and more on this episode of Fireside Chats.
